Bon Secours Community Hospital Nurses Volunteer in Honduras

Posted By: Advancing Care

Recently, a humanitarian mission for the poor in Honduras, sponsored by Love Truth Care Ministries, brought a group of volunteers to the Cental American country. Among the volunteers were Brenda Wolpert, RN, and Eileen Braun, RN, both nurses in the mental health unit of Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth). The group was in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and the mountain villages near the community of San Matias.

This was the fourth mission to Honduras for Wolpert and the first for Braun. Wolpert recalls the Honduran people’s gratitude as being one of the standouts from her first mission. “I was amazed how the people would wait on line all day for our dental services and never complain. They were so grateful.”

To raise money for the trip, Wolpert and Braun held a hospital sanctioned “Tricky Tray” fundraiser and netted close to $1,000. During the trip, they provided free medical services to the needy and visited children’s cancer wards and maternity wards.
