Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure for disease identification and treatment and is a critical tool for diagnostics in gastroenterology and hepatobiliary (liver) care.

Physicians specializing in gastroenterology and liver diseases are now performing endoscopic procedures that help diagnose conditions of the esophagus, stomach, colon, biliary tract and pancreas in a new endoscopy suite at Westchester Medical Center.

Endoscopes are small tubes with an affixed light and camera that are inserted into the body to observe organs and tissue. Endoscopes also have channels through which physicians can use tools to remove tissue, stop bleeding and conduct surgical interventions.

The new endoscopy suite has a comfortable lounge and private pre- and post-procedure areas for patients, in addition to the latest medical technologies for endoscopic procedures. Procedures routinely performed by Westchester Medical Center’s endoscopic specialists include, but are not limited to: colonoscopy, upper endoscopy (esophagus, stomach and duodenum), endoscopic ultrasound, biliary and pancreatic endoscopy, and capsule endoscopy of the small intestine.
