St. Anthony Community Hospital Offers 3D Mammograms

Posted By: Advancing Care

As seen in the September 2020 Issue of Advancing Care.

Warwick-based St. Anthony Community Hospital, a member of WMCHealth, now offers 3D mammography exams. These exams use advanced breast tomosynthesis technology that can significantly increase the detection of breast cancers, while decreasing the likelihood that a woman will be asked to return for additional follow-up tests, according to the American Cancer Society.

Utilizing a rotating digital scanner to capture images of the tissue from multiple angles, the 3D exam enables radiologists and technologists to move and enlarge images to view any area of concern. Considered superior to conventional digital mammography and approved by the FDA, the new system is recommended for women of all ages and breast densities and is widely covered by Medicare and Medicaid.

Members of the community who have delayed an annual exam due to COVID-19 are encouraged to visit stanthonycommunityhosp.org/mammography2 for more information or make an appointment by calling 845.988.9905.

The new equipment was funded in part by the Bon Secours Warwick Health Foundation and donations from community members. The 3D mammography upgrade was included in Phase One of the $10 million renovation of the St. Anthony Community Hospital’s Radiology Department.
