Westchester’s Largest Healthcare Construction Project in Decades Opens Doors to Patients

Posted By: Advancing Care

As seen in the May/June 2019 issue of Advancing Care

This spring, Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), celebrates the opening of its state-of-the-art, 280,000-square- foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion, adjacent to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

The Ambulatory Care Pavilion, which opens in May, responds to the evolving world of healthcare delivery, accommodates WMCHealth’s growing medical services, showcases the latest healthcare technologies and provides a patient-centered healing environment.

The $230 million project, which began in 2016, is Westchester County’s largest healthcare construction project in decades, since Westchester Medical Center’s 400,000-square-foot main tower was built on the Valhalla campus in 1977, and the addition of the 250,000-square-foot Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in 2004.

Now, residents in need of outpatient health services throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond can enjoy a cutting-edge facility close to home. Outpatient services will greatly expand, increasing convenience for patients and staff, and the latest technologies will be showcased.

The eight-story steel-and-glass structure will include 115,000 square feet of ambulatory-care space, including Advanced Imaging, the Surgery Center and the WMCHealth Heart and Vascular Institute. The facility also includes 20,000 square feet for additional private patient rooms for Westchester Medical Center and 115,000 square feet for physician offices.

Additional outpatient services will transition into the Ambulatory Care Pavilion over the coming months.

Beyond addressing a need for patient space, driven by continuing increases in Westchester Medical Center programs and patients, “The project strengthens the region through economic growth now and in the future,” says WMCHealth President and CEO Michael D. Israel.

With the completion of the Ambulatory Care Pavilion, WMCHealth will have invested nearly $1 billion in projects on its Valhalla campus in just over a decade.

“The Ambulatory Care Pavilion will provide patients and families the highest-quality treatment, improving outcomes in a modern environment especially conducive to healing,” says Israel.

“This addition is a symbol of WMCHealth’s commitment to the Hudson Valley,” he adds, “and our commitment to transformation through cutting-edge facilities and services is one way WMCHealth is ‘Advancing Care. Here.’”

Patients should confirm the location with their provider when scheduling their next appointment. When visiting the Ambulatory Care Pavilion, please use Parking Lot 1. Parking is free and must be validated at the time of appointment.
